Adding Fractional Services to Your Consulting Business

Nearly all solopreneurs struggle with inconsistent cash flow, and many have an urge to work more closely with their clients.

Small to mid-size companies struggle with affording the senior leadership they need to reach the next level.

Fractional executive roles are the answer to both of these challenges, but is it the right path for you as a solopreneur?

In this session, Katie Walter and John Arms, co-founders of the Fractional Conference and fractional CMOs in their own right, will break down how the Fractional model can help consultants expand the way they help clients and lock in recurring, stable revenue.

Attend this workshop to learn:

  • What Fractional really means - and what it doesn’t
  • The difference between retainer and fractional work
  • How to position Fractional to clients: Fractional vs. full-time vs. doing it all themselves
  • How to onboard and work effectively as a Fractional leader
  • How to set pricing
  • How to communicate value and impact
  • Finding clients for Fractional work, including suggestions for Website and LinkedIn profile changes to reflect your availability for fractional positions

Fractional is quickly replacing costly, inefficient full time hiring. It’s a smarter way for companies to grow. And it provides an opportunity for solopreneurs to be part of a team while maintaining their independence. It also provides solopreneurs with a steadier, more dependable income.

There's no charge for this workshop.

About Our Speakers:

Katie Walter is a marketing consultant and coach as well as the CEO of the Fractional Conference. She has worked in B2B marketing and communications for 25 years, from Fortune 500 organizations like Thomson Reuters to SaaS startups and professional services boutiques. She is a community facilitator for Coalition 9 and is a recognized thought leader in the fractional space.

Katie works hard to enable business growth. She is especially focused on helping Marketing teams do their best work. As a fractional CMO, she does that by ensuring the business strategy and goals are clear and actionable so marketers and agencies can deliver powerful results and that resources are pointed at the very best opportunities for growth. Her consulting practice focused on developing powerful thought leadership and brand content that builds trust with the market and flows into the lead funnel. She offers executive coaching and training to help the whole team level up as business leaders and revenue generators.

Katie lives in St. Paul with her husband, two children, and dog. She likes to hike, kayak, and garden. In fact, the garden was the inspiration for her business name, Trellis LLC. She loves how trellises support the healthy growth of plants. In her work, she supports the healthy growth of teams, individuals, and businesses.

John Arms is a nationally recognized voice in the future of work and a pioneer in the Fractional movement. He is the co-founder of Voyageur University, the cornerstone institution for Fractional career education. What began as a training program has evolved into a full Fractional enablement platform—equipping professionals with not only the knowledge, but also the tools, systems, and ongoing support needed to build sustainable, independent careers.

In addition to his work at Voyageur, John serves as a Fractional Chief Marketing Officer, helping small and mid-sized companies scale through strategy-first marketing and executional clarity. His clients rely on him to bring structure, storytelling, and results—without the complexity of bloated teams or traditional overhead.

John is also leading the development of AI-driven systems purpose-built for Fractional professionals, setting a new standard for how independent leaders operate and how businesses engage modern talent.

He is a sought-after speaker and advisor on the future of work, championing a world where freedom, opportunity, and fulfillment replace outdated models of employment—and where the best work of a person’s life can happen outside the walls of corporate.
